Line Dancing

Line Dancing uses simple dance steps set to lively music – country, pop, Latin American. It is danced in a line so we need no partners…

Our Line Dancing has been expanding for there are now 3 separate groups….!

For the dancers already hooked, there is a fortnightly taught class for Improvers and an informal Come Dance session on the intervening week. Both from 3-4pm. Both of these are open to those who’ve had a little experience.

For those starting to dance, there is now a weekly Beginners class, from 1-2pm one week and from                     1.45 – 2.45 the intervening one.

All the classes are held on Friday afternoons at the YMCA, Alverton Road, Penzance.

These are of course not open commercial classes but a Group within the Penzance u3a. Do come and take a look if you’re interested but, if you want to continue, you would need to join the u3a which does then of course open up many more possibilities.

Dancing is now being hailed as one of the best ways for oldies to exercise…. Here’s a quote from Age UK:

Of all the performing arts, dance is the one that has emerged as the most therapeutic when it comes to staving off the mental and physical ravages of old age.

Luckily, it is also the simplest… and the cheapest. All you need is a clear space, some inspirational music and the ability to move around to it.

Even better than dancing in the privacy of your own home, however, is finding a local dance class to attend, where you could be introduced to different steps and styles, as well as making new friends.”
