Play Reading

All the World’s a Stage

Do you ever wish that you could be someone different for a change?
Every two weeks the U3A Play Reading Group has the chance to do just that by inhabiting the characters created by the finest playwrights.  You can be a rich denizen of Grosvenor Square one day and then turn into a feisty young peasant from the West of Ireland.
Some of us have stage experience and some have none. The important thing is to enjoy having a go, which is fun, and it is a great relief not to have to learn your lines!
We read a varied selection of plays including ” Habeus Corpus” by Alan Bennett,  “Jamaica Inn” based on the novel be De Maurier, last term.  We are now reading “Cheshire Cats” by Gail Young and are hoping read one by Willy Rushton next.

Apart from reading through the plays, we have lively discussions on the themes, staging and characters, and our thoughts generally about the play.  We accept that not every play will be liked by everyone but that’s ok.

We are now meeting fortnightly on Fridays at the Redwing Gallery and we number 15 regular members,  so currently the group is fully subscribed.
