We are quite a mixture of lovers of particular poets, writers of their own pieces and those that just enjoy an afternoon of sharing and discovering poems and poets of any period. We certainly vary in our academic and poetry knowledge and we aim for a relaxed atmosphere. The group size varies from about 4 to 12, depending on our busy lives.

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month in the Theatre Bar of the Union Hotel, in Chapel Street. The space is available from 2pm so that we can get settled: meeting, greeting and making drink arrangements at the Bar. We each contribute £2.50 for the room hire.

We aim to start our readings at 2.30pm, going around the circle in order. We often share comments on the author, mood, phrases etc. For the first hour we have a subject that we can prepare for. The interpretation of the subject is often very loose. The last half an hour is open for our personal choice of subject. We finish at 4pm.

Newcomers are very welcome.

Previous subjects have included: Age, Childhood, War, Solitude, Created Spaces, Memories, Beginnings, Colour, Water and the Things that People do.
